El comisionado del Departamento de Asuntos Políticos, Paz y Seguridad de la UA, Bankole Adeoye, recordó en un comunicado que el evento de este año es celebrado contra la caída del terrorismo intratable, la insurgencia y los conflictos armados.
Adeoye precisó que, en algunos casos, “el concepto de protección de los civiles está colapsando y el genocidio es real o inminente, impulsado por la injusticia, la intolerancia, la exclusión, la pobreza, la desigualdad, la gobernanza constitucional y los desafíos del cambio climático”.
Subrayó que todo lo antes mencionado representan graves amenazas para África y, de hecho, para la estabilidad, la paz y la prosperidad globales.
Por lo tanto, el tema de este año, “Cultivar una cultura de paz”, es un recordatorio oportuno para la UA y sus comunidades y mecanismos económicos regionales, la sociedad civil y el sector privado, así como para los socios bilaterales y multilaterales, de ampliar los esfuerzos individuales y colectivos en enfoques holísticos de consolidación de la paz.
Se requieren respuestas intersectoriales a las situaciones de conflicto y posconflicto en el Cuerno de África, la cuenca del lago Chad, el Sahel y las regiones de los Grandes Lagos, entre otras, que deben ser inclusivas y asumidas por las comunidades afectadas y apoyadas conjuntamente a nivel continental e internacional, agregó el texto.
Sobre la Cumbre del Futuro que comienza mañana en la ONU, el comisionado de la organización continental africana expresó que proporciona una plataforma prometedora para renovar compromisos individuales y colectivos por parte de pueblos y gobiernos, además de predicar con el ejemplo antes de una autodestrucción sin remedio.
Por su parte, la UA, de conformidad con su Acta Constitutiva, el Protocolo del Consejo de Paz y Seguridad y la Agenda 2063, en particular sus Aspiraciones 3 y 4 sobre buena gobernanza, paz y seguridad, está decidida a intensificar las acciones para abordar estos problemas y desafíos compartidos, aseveró.
Instó a todos los africanos, especialmente a las mujeres y los jóvenes, a participar activamente en la formulación de políticas y construir sobre la base de los valores de Ubuntu la solidaridad, el diálogo y la cooperación y construyamos la paz de manera concreta.
De igual manera, hizo un llamado a los socios internacionales a trabajar en una sinergia más estrecha con África para volver a priorizar el multilateralismo sustentado en el respeto mutuo, la justicia, el estado de derecho, el desarrollo inclusivo, la buena gobernanza de las instituciones globales y la prosperidad compartidas.
